From the student we have we learned that Korean men are very polite but messy. Thanks for any input. P.S. I'm not at all trying to stereotype a race! It is very difficult to tell the differences from appearance, especially for a non-asian person. The young generation of Taiwanese men tend to be outgoing. Normally, they tend to have good habits, like taking shoes off in the house, greeting people, etc.

Taiwanese are fairly westernized, possibly moreso than Koreans. Everyone is an individual so its hard to generalize. Its unlikely that a person who would do a homestay would be very traditional. Many Taiwanese young men have never left home, much like Korean young men, thus they tend to perhaps be messy and less able to take care of themselves. Drinking alcolhol is less common for university aged females, but males here will drink much lighter than Western aged males at equivalent age. (ie not as much binge drinking with the exception of the odd whiskey binges during their required army service) (usually) Both Korean and Taiwanese generally are motivated by money and economics before personal pleasure. Beer is not often consumed by Taiwanese with Chinese descent, if he is of aborigine descent he will be more likely to take up that. Tea is a safe drink offer as well as cola. Korean culture- they eat Kimchee (pickled vegetables) with every meal. Taiwanese culture- they tend to lean towards boiled vegetables and fried streetfoods and are generally more curious about foreign foods. When I was in Korea it was more difficult to find affordable foreign restaurants and generally the foreign food in Korea (outside of Korean food) was not as good as the food prepared in Taiwan. There is much more openness and acceptance of difference in Taiwanese culture compared to the ULTRA conservative Korean culture which prizes traditions. Taiwan, having many more ethnic groups and competing tribes upon it, being a strategic geographic central point for accessing SE Asia, tends to have a more cosmopolitan outlook. (Korean food was actually quite amazing, so I dont blame them for sticking to it, I just got a bit tired of kimchee each meal after 2 weeks) That being said, Korea has an amazing focus on technological opportunities and probably a better ability to societally organize and work together than Taiwan, which tends to be much more you do as you wish, a herding cats mentality of organization. There are many amazing, open minded Korean males and ultra-conservative Han culture obsessed Taiwanese who wish to rejoin their 'brothers' in China as well. (most likely they are losers who couldnt get laid in Taiwan and want to suck up to China and cause strife in Taiwan and generally get some easy attention) But it is unlikely you will recieve some kind of nationalist, except perhaps in relation to the Taiwan vs China question. Most people here feel strongly about the independance of Taiwan, but accept the similarities in culture, much like Canadians and Australians and Americans have similarities to British, but would not consider themselves denizens of England. Taiwanese tend to be more flexible and open and curious towards cultural change than from what I see in Korea.
4 :
one thing i know is that koreans in general love their beer; men and women alike drink beer regularly as soon as they hit 18. taiwanese drink comparatively less beer, many do not drink regularly.
5 :
Asian men in general will act very polite to hosts. Even if they do like something they will tend to tolerate it. I don't think you will find much difference between the two especially if they are students. The Korean guy is just a slob, nothing to do with culture.

When the pilgrims landed on Plymoth Rock. and to Wonder... Protostants are christians too... :) and the pilgrims were protostant - that's why they came here... he he

I don't no when and the guy above me isn't right because i'm pretty sure america wasn't really christian for a while i'm pretty sure it was in the protestant erra when they came over from england...i dont remeber why is because they think its a sin

Because some scientists how proved things the church disagreed with, eg. the world being a sphere, where gay, so by making the fact that they are gay seem awful it gave the scientists less respect, so people didnt believe them. rather hypocrytical imo because some vicars are having sex with under aged boys, which is surely worse than just having sex with other men... you would think

Since the issues of homosexuality, bestiality, sexual perversions, etc. are so strongly prohibitive in The Old Testament and The New Testament, they have been a concern for the church in America from the time it began to develop. The strength of such concern can be seen in the laws of the various states'...and the strong penalties for such behavior. Most of these laws derived from religious beliefs of the populace.
5 :
From the beginning. Most states banned "sodomy" as soon as they were states. They did so because the state legislatures were predominantly made up of Christians, and those people in the legislatures learned their belief that "sodomy" is "wrong" from their churches.
6 :
at the same time as when the church in america banned and imprisoned other christian believers because they didn't belong to the 'right' church - right from the beginning of settlement. at the same time as the church supported annihilation of the indigenous people of the north american continent.
7 :
It has been, since the Holy Scriptures were written thousands of years ago. "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination ..." Leviticus 20:13 The reason it has come to the forefront, is because unlike other sins that the Bible teaches about, Homosexuals have tried to force their “lifestyle” upon our society. You don’t see that happening with other sins that the Bible mentions.
8 :
The origin of ACCEPTED homophobia was in ancient Rome. The king wanted to gain more power so he joined an alliance with the catholic church. Catholicism is against homosexuals so he believed this as well to gain acceptance from them, he forced his empire to believe this as well.
9 :
1492, alternative sexual practices have always been a concern of the church, but as these alternatives became more open and vocal, the church responded by becoming more vocal about it's opposition.

Well, if you are an American Citizen (which I assume is the case since you were born here), try filling out a FAFSA (link below). However, you may also want to try the other sites for international students. Good luck!
